After several weeks of way too much work, along with other personal projects taking priority (see previous post), I finally took brush in hand again this week to finish a practice board i began about a month ago. Being a little impatient I decided I didn’t want to paint any more straight lines and thought it might be good to attempt ACTUAL WORDS (gasp!).

From a distance they look just fine, but under close scrutiny they reveal shakiness of hand and an inability to square a corner off nicely. Lesson learned…..Perfect the basics, I’m back to straight lines!!

Nevermind. In just over a month I’m taking part in a day course in traditional signwriting at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Chichester. Courses in this kind of work are few and far between and I’m looking forward to having a full day’s work rather than half-hours grabbed here and there between other jobs.
